Product Description

The Gibson SG is a popular model of solid-bodied electric guitar that was introduced in 1961 and broke through traditional concepts of solidbody electrics. It became an instant classic. The SG body style has remained in production since it's inception. The SG's popularity was boosted by famous guitarists like Angus Young of AC/DC.

4.5 Stars Gibson SG Classic, July 06, 2010
Reviewer: Brandon L from Montreal, QC

I bought this guitar last year, at Guitar Center, and it is a 2009 model. This guitar came out in 1995 and it has been one of Gibson's discontinued guitars since 2002. I have the Heritage Cherry SG, and it looks awesome! If this guitar was lost or stolen, I would for sure buy it again at Guitar Center. There is nothing I dislike about this guitar. I love everything! It stays in tune like a gem, the finish is absolutely amazing, the sound and tone of those dual P90 Pickups are amazing and it is so comfortable to play. I recommend this guitar to anybody who has experience! (4 years and over)

All in all, one amazing USA made Gibson guitar. I know that this guitar will last me a life time. Gibson, you did a great job on this one......:)

4 Stars Gibson SG Standard Black, August 13, 2007
Reviewer: Al Floer from Atlanta Georgia

I bought the Sdt vers from GC 2005, and planned on replacing the PU's with 57 classics from day one. The guitar before that was still great. It was well put together, and once intonated and setup, it was better. It plays smooth, sweet and stays in tune very well. Since the new PU are in , the guitar is absolutely fantastic, The sound is just like what Pete and Angus sound like, well almost. I 'm glad I bought the sdt and replaced the PUP. Best way to do it. May not be a 5, like the custom shop single piece, but I bet you could not tell the difference.

5 Stars Gibson Les Paul SG, May 30, 2007
Reviewer: John from Western NY state

I bought my red,1961 Gibson Les Paul SG from a fellow that needed money. I got it for less than $200.00 back in the 1970s. It has an incredible neck and the touch is feather light. It has a vibrato lever that works back and forth instead of up and down. I didn't use the lever that much. Stretching strings on frets was very easy. I used it for many years and loved every minute of it. I would certainly recommend it to others if the action and neck is still the same.

4 Stars Gibson Swamp Ash SG, May 30, 2007
Reviewer: Brian from Kentucky

The swamp ash body of this SG is much lighter in weight than
traditional mahogany bodies. Howerver, it is a harder wood,
and it gives the swamp ash SG a distinctive "snap." Pair this
with '57 Classic humbuckers, and you've got something that
sounds quite special (at least to me). Mine was purchased new
in 2007, and was probably made in 2005 or 2006. The model
is discontinued.

The downside is that the body is rough as the proverbial cobb.
It's not even thoroughly sanded! I find this very surprising
from Gibson. It's as if the body was rough cut from the
swamp ash blank, rough sanded on belt sander, then slapped
together with the neck. The workmanship is...well, it's not
workmanship at all. Mine also needed the frets levelled. One
or two were slightly high around the 9th and 10th frets.

Even with these complaints, I've got my eye open for another
one (backup). The feel and the sound of the guitar are unique.
I can deal with the rough construction. Hey, there's no need
to worry about knicks and scrapes in the finish. There IS NO
FINISH on the body. And it would probably take a hammer to
make an impression in the wood.

One last note: The uncovered pickups drove me nuts. Gibson
doesn't produce the best looking naked pickups. I added nickel
covers to mine. Now the pickups are protected, and they look
a lot better. I know, it's like putting a pearl necklace on a pig,
but it makes me feel better. By the way, adding the covers
had minimal effect on the sound. It may have taken away
just a smidge of the swamp ash induced edginess.

As ugly and rough as it is, the swamp ash SG is my favorite
guitar. It's a keeper, for sure.

4 Stars 2003 Gibson SG Special Faded, May 25, 2007
Reviewer: Anonymous from White Lake, MI

Do you like tones of Eric Clapton (Cream), Pete Townshend (early Who), Frank Zappa, Angus Young, and even John Lennon on the Beatles' White album? The common denominator is the Gibson SG. Introduced in 1961, the revamped Les Paul SG (solid guitar) was introduced to compete with the Fender Stratocaster. The slender solid body features duel humbuckers for that fat sound, a toggle switch, plus two tone and volume controls within easy reach. The double cut-away body provides easy access to the the 22nd fret. Having been a life long acoustic guitar owner, the SG was my first electric. I immediately fell in love with the look and feel of this guitar, plus it had a great price for the American made quality of a Gibson, just over $500.00 in 2003. The look, the tone, the feel of this guitar make it a classic you will enjoy!

5 Stars Epiphone Goth SG, May 25, 2007
Reviewer: James M. Harrison from Columbus, OH

Right, not a true Gibson, an Epiphone; but right out of the box this baby wails. Plus, it looks darker than night. All this at an incredible price. One of my 3 favorite guitars.
