The Epiphone Les Paul guitar has an arched, figured curly maple carved top in faded sunburst finishes for that great LP look. 2 Stars Epiphone Les Paul Junior, July 06, 2010
Reviewer: Brandon L. from Montreal, QC Canada

At my local guitar store, I wanted to try a cheap guitar, just for fun. The salesman gave me the Epiphone LP junior. It is cool looking, though. I plugged it into a Roland Cube 60 and there is very bad news.
The tuners!!!! They are so bad, and feel so sloppy and cheap, that they get out of tune every minute! The sound from that single pickup is so bad. It doesn't even sound like a guitar......It sounds like a harp or even a violin or something like that.

Also, the craftsmanship is not good either. The materials feel extremely cheap and is so hard to slide around the neck. It is not meant for soloing. This guitar is very uncomfortable and put it down after a couple of minutes because I couldn't take how bad it was.

The frets are extremely sharp, and it hurts and got a cut when I tried to slide my finger down the neck. It was kind of impossible to do that.

Everything is not good about this guitar. It is not even a beginner's guitar. It is a guitar that you keep on the wall after playing it for a couple of minutes.

If you want a beginner's guitar, get something that will stay in tune! This does not.

4.5 Stars Epiphone Les Paul Special II Left-Handed Cherry Burst, April 03, 2009
Reviewer: Walt of SA from San Antonio, TX 78213

This guitar is a Les Paul I made some pickup changes bridge to pearly gates but out of the box it became obvious that the only major difference is price I own Gibson LPs and for some reason the Gibson guitars have became expensive. Epiphone produces a quality guitar They are as playable as Gibson. I don't believe Mr. Paul would allow his name to be attached to a inferior product Pick one up before some one decides they should cost more.

5 Stars Epiphone Les Paul 100, March 24, 2009
Reviewer: Chris from Cincinnati, OH USA

I just got an Epiphone Les Paul 100 and it's amazing. For 300 bucks, you get the same sound as a gibson. I think it compares to the Gibson Les Paul Studio even with all of the stock parts. The body is thinner, but that doesn't seem to affect the guitar alot. It looks great and with the right pickups, it will be even better. Definately worth the money.

4.5 Stars Zakk Wylde Custom Epiphone, March 14, 2008
Reviewer: Reon from Minnesota

I recently bought this guitar, I can honestly say it is well worthy of being a Zakk Wylde guitar. I gave it 4.5 stars simply cause its not a Gibson, considering it is a few thousand dollars cheaper then its Gibson counterpart we can praise Epiphone on making a fantastic guitar for those of us on a smaller budget. It looks like a les paul, plays like a les paul, smells like a les paul, it even tastes like a les paul. Blindfolded i dont think I could tell the difference between the Epi and the Gibson. The EMG (although they are passive) pickups give a much nicer tone then the regular epiphone pickups. The neck is very fast, Ive noticed my playing speed is a great deal faster. I'll admit I'd love to have the gibson version simply because Zakk is my idol and gibson is his guitar, the epi is the next best thing and it by no means falls short. My advice is don't look at Epiphone as a cheap knockoff of gibson untill you play one i think you will be quite impressed with the sound you get for a much lower price

4 Stars Les Paul Standard, Ebony Finish., January 22, 2008
Reviewer: Matt C from Ottawa, Canada

I love this guitar, I got this guitar for Christmas a couple of years back. Its been through hell and back with me. I've been playing for about 16 years and I can not stress enough how great this this guitar is for the price. A True Gibson will always have the upper hand on the epiphone as the gibson is made from a higher quality wood, and overall better hardware (pick-ups, Machine heads etc...). In conclusion, the Epiphone les Paul Standard is the best buy for the buck.

4.5 Stars Epiphone Les Paul Standard, Cherry Sunburst, November 27, 2007
Reviewer: Charlie Lowlife from San Diego CA

My Epiphone Les Paul is a 2007 Standard Cherry Sunburst. Would you purchase the Epiphone Les Paul again? YES!!!
First off, I was totally surpised by the TONE of this LP. It was deep and beautiful... it just sang out... and that's before I plugged into a Marshall. After that I couldn't believe I was playing an EPI cuz it played so well and sounded so goooood! With stock pickups! It is also a beautiful guitar just to look at. I wasn't intending to buy it as I was a bit of a snob at the time about "Brand Names" but I'm a believer now. Epiphones LP's are awesome and I own a Gibson '61 original LP and a LP Studio. I didn't think an EPI could come close but it was just so beautiful sitting there on the rack... I picked it up and bought it 15 minutes later. Because of my style of playing, I soon replaced the pickups with Dimarzio's Tone Zone (bridge) and Air Norton (neck) and this has become my go to guitar. Even above my custom order active pickup guitar. So, if u wanna see a good article on this topic, go to http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?doc_id=82009 and it gives the particulars of the REAL differences between the Gibson and Epi. In case they remove the url, there are 3 points different between Gibson/ Epi: GIBSON: MADE IN TENN. USA. EPI is made in Korea. Gibson uses a higher grade mahagony than Epi, and finally, they use different finishing techniques with Gibson using a more "tonal" type of finish and Epi using a more cost effective type of finish (that actually lasts longer than the Gibson finish... Epi wont fade so quickly. And that's it!
--> What do you dislike about the Epiphone Les Paul and why? Can't think of a thing I don't love about it. I've had no problems with it at all.
--> Do you recommend the Epiphone Les Paul? Definitely. Buy it. If the sound doesn't suit you just right, change out the pickups to ones that will give you what you're looking for, and off you go! It's a great guitar that still surprises me. BTW, I've been playing 39 years.

3.5 Stars Epiphone Les Paul Custom, June 02, 2007
Reviewer: Michael D. from Goodrich, MI. USA

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is a great axe for the beginner to intermediate player, I am one of those, but for the advanced players there is nothing like the real thing! The electronics on the Epi are not the same as the Gibson. You can get similar tonal quality but the wiring and pick-ups are different. The attention to detail is also different. Both my strap knobs came lose and striped out soon after purchase. The bridge and other hardware is not the same quality. The "gold" plating started to tarnish right away. Even with all these "negative" comments, I would still buy the exact guitar I own again given the chance. I love the guitar and I love playing it. The action is Incredible for the price and it plays VERY similar to its more expensive counterpart! It looks GREAT and gets a ton of attention when I open the case. For $599.00 it is and will be for a long time the guitar for me!!

5 Stars Epiphone Custom Plus Les Paul Flametop, June 01, 2007
Reviewer: PJC1221 from Vero Beach, Florida

This model is made in China whereas other versions of the Epi Les Pauls are made in Korea. I think the workmanship is superior on the Chinese models and even tested one against a $2,300 Gibson USA Les Paul Standard. Yes, there are some differences between the Gibson and the Epiphone, but for $700 you can have a guitar that stays in tune, is reasonably well made and sounds like a Les Paul. Use the money you saved to buy a Fender Stratocaster and still have $500 left in the bank.

5 Stars Epiphone Les Paul, May 30, 2007
Reviewer: Big T from Lubbock, TX USA

I have had this guitar for 4 years, and it is great. I talked to a friend who has a '72 Gibson Les Paul, and he believes that the differences between the two are minimal. He says that the only differences he is aware of is the different wood. I would definitely recommend this guitar for any level of guitar player.
