Learn and Master Guitar, March 27, 2008

In my mid-40's, I began the LMG course with zero knowledge beyond knowing the mnemonic "Every Good Boy Does Fine". I couldn't name the strings and didn't know what a chord or scale was. I cannot possibly find the words to thank Mr. Krenz for opening a door to a world I had only dreamed of entering my entire life. The production quality of the DVD's and play-along CD's is superb. Steve has an unassuming, patient demeanor and you quickly feel like you know him. It helps that he is directly involved in his online message board and answers your questions. He became "so real" to me that I found myself talking to him on the DVD. It was uncanny how often he would show an exercise which I would then flub and he would say, "Let's do that one again...that's pretty tough the first time through." He teaches in a traditional way beginning with notes on the first two strings and moving on from there. There are no promises to "make you a guitarist in 30 days." For a total beginner like myself, this course will take 1-1 1/2 years to complete properly. After a year of playing, I fell in love with soloing and decided to augment my training by taking private lessons with a carefully chosen experienced teacher. At my first lesson, my teacher wanted to see "where I was at" with my playing and ran me through several skills. After demonstrating barre chords, he stopped me and said, "How long have you REALLY been playing?" He could not believe that I had gone from zero to my current level in 12 months, especially without private lessons. Most reassuring, I had not learned many bad habits despite having no "live" feedback for a year. If you are disciplined and want to learn to play the guitar properly (that means reading notes, not TAB), this course will take you far. The only thing I desired was a bit more theory than Steve presented early on so I supplemented this with books he recommended to me on his forum. This course was worth every cent!

Learn And Master Guitar Course, January 06, 2008

I've tried several courses and have been pretty disappointed overall. Most have poor video quality. Others have an instructor that didn't even take the time to practice his lesson before getting in front of the camera so he stammers and studders through the whole thing (and one particluar course like this costs well over $100...did get my money back on that one though). I've even tried some that are trapped on your computer and found that I don't want to be stuck playing in my office or confined to waiting five minutes for my laptop to boot up.
This course has it all. It has an excellent instructor who walks you through everything very well without looking at dummy cards for every other word. It's entirely on DVD so you can use it in any room with a DVD player as well as on any computer with a DVD ROM. The production of the video is outstanding. You can tell that a lot of care was put into this and it wasn't someone sitting in their basement trying to make a quick buck.
This is the most expensive course I bought, but as with most things related to the guitar, you get what you pay for. When I first went to the site, it was $249 and the site that recommended it said to keep looking back as it goes on sale for $199. Well, I kept checking back and found it for $149 and bought it immediately. I was so happy with the course, that I bought the supplemental 10 DVDs for an extra $50. FYI, the supplemental DVDs are NOT necessary so don't think you have to buy them for the course to be good. I just bought them for the extra workshops you get and find them worth it.
One more thing, the website you join is fantastic as well. There are a lot of extra materials, Discussion Boards, Blogs, and much more. Buy this course and it will be the last one you buy.

Simply the best beginner course available. It is well structured, well paced, and contains an appropriate level of music theory and techniques to develop your musicianship. Steve Krenz knows how to teach, he inspires, enounciates clearly and makes learning fun - he can also play the guitar - at times it feel likes he is sitting in front you pushing you on.
The video quality is superb, as is the supporting materials provided with the course. This is backed-up by web site downloads containing further training exercises, and answers to the various music theory exercises and quizzes contained within the manual. Split screen videos show hand close-ups, TAB with rolling pointer and longer shots showing strumming patterns. The kit comes with several play-along cd's which contain the learnt songs played at different speeds - select the speed your happy to play at, select a new faster speed when your confident enough - do so until you achieve tempo and are playing it correctly.
My only gripe (and a very minor one) is that the learnt music is rather dull - the old teaching favourites and nothing particularly modern.
This course sets out to make you a player and with the right commitment it does, with an appropriate skill level but more critically a level of musicianship beyond what you will achieve after a year of lessons at substantially greater cost.

Learn And Master Guitar Course By Steve Krenz, May 23, 2007

When I first looked at the course online, it really looked like a great program. I looked at the price and was hesitant. I looked at it for a couple more weeks. Then I ordered it. It was the best purchase that I could have made. I have been playing for a couple of years, and just in two weeks, I can't believe my progress. It is good for beginner, and advanced, or really anyone. It is so well put together that I can't stop playing my guitar. My only regret is that I didn't order it sooner.
